As a top-producing mortgage planner in Frisco, I have had the pleasure of assisting more than 135 families each year in buying or refinancing their personal slice of the American Dream. My experience working with people just like you to help them secure their financing objectives has provided me a great sense of fulfillment. I love helping people reach their goals, and I'm ready to bring my enthusiasm and experience to the mission of helping you with yours.

Personal Passions

I am dedicated to my work, but I'd also like to share with you a little about what I find important outside of mortgage & life insurance planning. One of the most unique life opportunities I have enjoyed was serving as an Olympic torch bearer in 1996. Granted, the day my wife said “I Do” or getting to be a dad to 4 amazing kids is pretty awesome! I am also very involved with my family, cycling, church and community activities.

This is my WHY!

Your Mortgage Guy for Life!

Commonly known as the Frisco Mortgage Guy, I've become an integral part of the community where I live and work. As a father of four, I understand that for most people, their homes are not just their biggest financial investment but also the most important place to shelter and nurture their families. "Keeping it real" is my philosophy, and here’s how that benefits you:

I encourage my clients to trust me to find the mortgage products that are right for them, always keeping their best interest as my top priority.

I consistently encourage my clients to set realistic goals around purchase amounts to help them avoid the “house rich/cash poor” trap that homebuyers can fall into when they overreach their budgets.

I've always discouraged clients from pursuing risky loan products, which may be one reason why many of my clients were less impacted by the recent mortgage crisis than some others in the area.

I take the time to educate my clients about home expenses – both expected and unexpected – that can become unbearable when laboring under the burden of debt.

My focus is on ensuring that my clients understand the real costs of homeownership and that they are prepared for these costs.

Taking the time to get to know each client, educating them, and providing honest, realistic information and guidance is simply the way I do business.

Check-out my easy to understand credit tips. I'm always available to assess your personal credit situation and help guide you in ways to improve your score.

Family

My family has always encouraged my growth; my parents and siblings have been excellent mentors. I am who I am today because of these wonderful people with whom I have shared my life, and for that I will always be grateful.

Family is the cornerstone of my life, especially since becoming a father to four amazing kids — a joy beyond belief. And let's not forget the wonderful day in May when I met the woman of my dreams, Julie. We crossed paths in Austin, TX, both working at the Ride for the Rose bicycle event, "Lance's Ride." Julie represented her Subaru clients with an advertising agency, while I served as a Technical Representative for Specialized Bicycles. Our courtship was wonderfully romantic, leading me to quit my job and relocate to be closer to her. As time marches on, our initial friendship has only deepened, growing stronger with each passing day.

I'm also fortunate to have a large extended family whom I adore spending time with. Thanks to my two sisters in Kansas and my brother and sister here in Texas, I have nine nieces and nephews—all of whom I've had the pleasure of teaching how to ice skate.

Throughout my life, my family has been a source of unwavering support and encouragement. My parents and siblings have served as exceptional mentors, shaping me into the person I am today. I am forever grateful for the wonderful people with whom I've shared my life.

Cycling

I've been cycling since I was 18 years old. My interest was first piqued back in 1984 when I watched the cycling competition in the Olympics. A couple of years later, I asked for a bike for my high school graduation present. I received a great high-end European road bike and I was hooked.

I love cycling because it gives you a real sense of freedom. Taking a ride down a country road on a bike, you will see things that you would never see if you took that same drive in a car. And I love that I can share this experience with a group of friends. Cycling really makes me feel like I am part of something bigger than myself.

From 1993-1996, I won category I championship honors in the Kansas State cycling competition, including road racing, time trial, team time trial and cyclocross. I was also the founder of Mountain Bike Lawrence, the first mountain bike club in Kansas. In 2007 I was encouraged to take a more active roll of the Frisco Cycling Club . I became Sponsorship Coordinator and Treasurer- we have become a very active Club in the City of Frisco. In 2008 I became club president.

Local Mountain Biking

The DFW area boasts extensive miles of land, some can be dedicated to hike, walk, and bicycle trails. One organization making a significant impact in managing these trails is the Dallas Off-Road Biking Association  (DORBA), a non-profit run entirely by volunteers. Every year, hundreds of miles of trails are created, maintained, and improved through their efforts!

DORBA played a pivotal role in establishing a trail in Frisco, TX years ago, which was initially a temporary location. Later, our Parks Department relocated it to its current spot. In May 2022, I took on the role of Trail Steward for this Frisco trail area. Throughout my first year, I dedicated over 181 hours to fulfilling the responsibilities that come with this Volunteer position.

Being a Trail Steward is truly a win-win situation for me — I have the opportunity to give back to the community while staying active and enjoying some exercise along the way!

Join us each year for our 5k fun run!

Rotary

Growing up in Manhattan, KS, I witnessed the importance of giving back through my parents' actions. So, when I received an invitation to join the Frisco Sunrise Rotary Club in 2004, I eagerly embraced the opportunity. Rotary, founded in 1905 by Chicago attorney Paul Harris, has become a cherished family tradition. My father was a Rotarian in Lawrence, KS, my father-in-law in Fairbanks, AK, and both my grandfather and grandfather-in-law were Rotarians.

I hold my past affiliation with the Frisco Sunrise Rotary Club in the highest regard and have been fortunate to receive several Club and District level awards over the years. Currently, due to other outstanding commitments, I am an Honorary member of the club. Rotary has been a fulfilling and impactful part of my life, carrying on a legacy of service that runs deep in my family.

The God Thing

Spiritual life holds deep significance for me and serves as the bedrock of our family's character, principles, and ethics. Despite being busy on Sundays in the past, my perspective shifted when I fell in love with Julie Lynn Kohler. Her influence has greatly contributed to my personal growth through years of active church involvement.

I often reflect on how meeting individuals like Clay Lein, Catherine Thompson, Terry Reisner, Greg Methvin, and Diana Freeman has shaped my journey. In particular, I recommend listening to a  sermon delivered by Father Clay  in July 2007, where he touches on a topic involving my son.

Our spiritual home is Preston Trail Church here in Frisco, where my wife actively serves in the children's ministry. This community has been instrumental in our spiritual development and continues to play a significant role in our lives. www.prestontrail.org

Habitat for Humanity

Working in the mortgage industry serves as a daily reminder of the fundamental human need for a place to call home. Many individuals face significant challenges in meeting this basic necessity. Habitat for Humanity plays a vital role in addressing this need within our community.

From 2003 to 2008, I served as a Board Member for Plano Area Habitat for Humanity and also participated as a committee member for Family Selection. This role allowed me to assist applicants with previous credit issues and educate them on understanding the FICO model, aligning well with my expertise in the mortgage field.

My wife Julie and I were both actively engaged in promoting Habitat for Humanity's mission, recognizing the profound impact of providing safe and affordable housing to those in need. This experience has reinforced my commitment to supporting initiatives that empower individuals and families to achieve homeownership and stability. Habitat's work remains crucial in ensuring that everyone has access to a secure and dignified place to call home.

"Keeping it real" is Geoffrey's philosophy. His focus is on ensuring that his clients understand the real costs of homeownership, and that they are ready for these costs. If a client is currently carrying a heavy debt load, he will encourage them to reduce the debt before pursuing a home loan. He takes the time to educate clients about home expenses – both expected and unexpected – that can become unbearable when laboring under the burden of debt. Geoffrey also explains how the best rates are available to those with higher credit scores, and how debt can reduce those scores, leading to a loan that is both more expensive and less beneficial to the client.

The bottom line for Geoffrey is making sure that his clients get the right loan product that works best for them. Taking the time to get to know each client, educating them, and providing honest, realistic information and guidance is simply the way he does business. A home is a long term investment, and Geoffrey views his relationships with his clients the same way.
